The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 champions Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) as essential for children's education. It recognizes that these core skills—reading, writing, and basic math—provide the basis for all subsequent learning, and that a strong FLN foundation paves the way for success.
The NEP has set an ambitious target: universal foundational literacy and numeracy in primary schools by 2025. Achieving this requires educators, parents, and policymakers to join forces and prioritize conceptual understanding and real-world application over rote learning.
The FLN mission is built on several pillars, including the creation of engaging learning materials, effective teacher training, and robust assessment mechanisms. Central to the approach is play-based and activity-based learning, designed to make learning enjoyable and meaningful for young children. The initiative also prioritizes early identification of learning gaps and timely support to ensure every child thrives.
FLN empowers children to become confident learners and active citizens, not just succeed academically. By ensuring foundational literacy and numeracy for all, we build a more equitable and prosperous society. The FLN mission is key to unlocking every child's potential.
