Art of Changing Mindset.

Depression is a heavy burden that many people carry, often in silence. It can feel hopeless, leading individuals to believe that there is no way out. However, the art of changing one’s mindset offers a glimmer of hope. Studies have shown that adopting a positive mindset can significantly impact mental health. According to the World Health Organization, over 264 million people globally suffer from depression. Yet, with the right tools, transformation is possible.

Changing your mindset involves reframing negative thoughts and actively embracing a more positive outlook. I went through a challenging year in 2024, where everything in my life seemed negative, leading me to develop a negative mindset about myself and my capabilities. To counter this, I began reading positive excerpts from various books and writing them in my diary using colourful pens. Every day, I start with some positive words in my diary. This practice has helped lift me from the weight of negativity.

Next practice, I found myself struggling with procrastination and unable to complete tasks correctly. To address this, I began breaking down my work into smaller sub-tasks with specific timelines. I also adopted the Pomodoro Technique, which involves working for 25 minutes without any disruptions, taking a 5-minute break, and then repeating the cycle.

Renowned psychologist Martin Seligman, known for his work in positive psychology, emphasizes the importance of cultivating optimism. He states, "Our thoughts are not facts. They are merely our interpretations of events." This insight encourages individuals to challenge their negative thought patterns, fostering a healthier mindset. Similarly, Dr. Carol Dweck’s concept of the "growth mindset" encourages people to see challenges as opportunities for personal development. This approach is particularly vital for those battling depression, as it helps in rewiring thought processes to embrace resilience.

Changing your mindset is quite easy if you start believing in yourself. Jot down every single thought, and practice walking in nature for at least 30 minutes, which improves your condition and clears your mindset of negative thinking. Practicing worship can help a lot, especially when you surrender your negative thoughts to your deity. Before you sleep, always say, 'I can do everything and anything to overcome all the hurdles in my life. This positive affirmation is a great way to end your day on an empowering note.
